Active engagement of PSEs with the ‘Gandhian Forum for Ethical Corporate Governance’ of SCOPE

On January 30th, 2013, SCOPE launched the ‘Gandhian Forum for Ethical Corporate Governance’ to promote ethical business practices among the PSEs.  The ‘Gandhian Forum’ envisages a role in providing the member enterprises develop ethical excellence in business based on valuesof transparency, accountability and capabilities to meet the rising expectations form diverse stakeholders.   It gives an opportunity to corporates for sensitizing executives for value based leadership, organizational integrity, rural economic and social responsibility

In April 2013, BHEL started its association with the ‘Gandhian Forum’ and introduced the ‘Gandhian Ideology Program’ (GIP) as part of People Development initiative of HRDI. A large number of young executives havejoined the task force duringthe recent years in BHEL and the contribution of the talent is an essential component of their performance. The focus of human resources is not only to develop each person’s competencies, but also their performance and potential in alignment with the on-going business challenges.  BHEL has planned 32 lectures this year, in 23 manufacturing units for mixed levels of executives to address the issues of ethics and values across different generation of employees. Till June, 2013, fifteen lectures have been organised in BHEL units at Noida, Delhi, Haridwar, Trichy, Tirumayam, Bangalore, Chennai andVishakhapattanamby the faculty namely Smt. ShobhanaRadhakrishna, Chief functionary of the ‘Gandhian Forum’ and Shri Ravi Chopra from the Centre for Gandhian Vision and Values.


In addition, in May and June, 2013, six lectures were delivered at MMTC Corporate Office in Delhi; RINL Vishakhapatnam; GAIL (India) GTI in Noida; ITI Limited Corporate Office in Bangalore, Neyvelli Lignite Corporation in Chennai and BPCL Corporate Office in Mumbai for senior and mid-levels of executives.


The main themes covered were -Ethical Leadership, essence of eternal values and their application in workplace, transparency, accountability, individual probity, organizational integrity, ethical business practices, trusteeship and societal responsibility. The encouraging feedback received from the participants indicated the relevance of value based leadership and its application in their professional and personal lives.
